In order to make the audit as efficient and effective as possible, we kindly request that you do the items below prior to the auditor arriving. Please keep in mind the audit process normally takes up to four hours, and cash or check payment is expected on the date of service.

Close and latch all windows and doors and raise or draw open their curtains and blinds.

If you have a fireplace, cover the ashes with wet newspaper or equivalent to prevent them from coming out during blower door tests.

Attics: Clear any belongings to allow ladder access to an attic hatch or to allow extension of drop down stairs.

Knee wall, crawlspace, or other wall access hatches: Clear any belongings to allow access to open these.

Be prepared to answer the following during discussion with your auditor:
• Are there any hot cold spots throughout the home?
• Does anyone in the home have asthma or year-round allergy problems?
• Are there any moisture concerns in the home?
• What year was the house constructed (approximate is fine)?
• What is the square footage of the home?
• How long you have been in the home, and how long you intend to stay?

Clear any belongings to ensure adequate access to all gas or oil fired furnaces, boilers, or hot water heaters.

Secure all pets. The auditor will request access to all areas of the home to do a thorough assessment. Exceptions can certainly be made and should be brought to the attention of the auditor.

Provide your auditor with a copy of your recent gas and electric bills, showing a twelve month history (listed right on the bill) or a spreadsheet showing month and respective gas therms or electric Kwh and the associated costs.
